Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (or rice flour for GF)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp oil for frying (avocado or canola)
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tsp water (slurry)
  • Chili flakes or sriracha for heat (optional)
  • Toasted sesame seeds (optional)
  • Chopped green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat dry the peeled and deveined shrimp. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Set up a breading station with flour, egg, and panko in separate bowls. Dip each shrimp in flour, then egg, then panko.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry shrimp for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  4. In a small pan, combine honey, soy sauce, garlic, and vinegar. Simmer for 2-3 minutes. Stir in cornstarch slurry and cook until thickened.
  5. Toss fried shrimp in the glaze until evenly coated. Serve immediately for best texture.

Notes

Use medium heat and small batches for best cooking results. Store shrimp and glaze separately to maintain texture.
