Description

A quick and easy classic Irish Soda Bread with a crisp crust and tender crumb, perfect for busy mornings and special dinners.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Mix the flour, baking soda, salt, and sugar in a large bowl.
  3. Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk.
  4. Stir with a wooden spoon until a soft dough forms.
  5. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead just until it comes together, about 1 minute.
  6. Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Cut a deep cross on the top of the loaf.
  8. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until golden and sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Let it cool slightly before slicing and enjoy fresh.

Notes

For best results, measure flour correctly and avoid over-kneading the dough.
