Ingredients

  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened (for icing)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Feed your sourdough starter several hours before using.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine bread flour, sourdough starter, milk, brown sugar, and salt.
  3. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover and let it ferment at room temperature for several hours or overnight in the fridge.
  5. Prepare the filling by mixing softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  6. Roll out the dough into a large rectangle.
  7. Spread the cinnamon-sugar filling over the dough.
  8. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut it into individual rolls.
  9. Place rolls in a greased baking dish and allow to rise until puffy.
  10. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Prepare cream cheese icing by mixing softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla.
  12. Spread icing over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

For a richer icing, consider adding more powdered sugar or a touch of milk. Store extras in an airtight container.
