  • 3 medium ripe bananas Use very ripe bananas for best results.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can be replaced with gluten-free flour.
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Consider swapping half for white chocolate or peanut butter chips for a twist.
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder For a more intense chocolate flavor, add 2 more tablespoons.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 5/8 cup butter Warm slightly for easier mixing.
  • 1/4 cup milk

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, mash the ripe bananas.
  3. In another bowl, mix the butter and sugars until creamy, then add the eggs and vanilla.
  4. Stir in the mashed bananas.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture, mixing until just combined.
  7. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  10. Allow to cool before cutting into squares.

Notes

Cut into squares and serve at room temperature. They pair well with vanilla ice cream or a dusting of powdered sugar. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days. Frozen squares can be stored for up to 2 months.
