Ingredients
  

For the pudding
  • 1 cup milk Use whole milk for richness.
  • 1/2 cup sugar Adjust according to taste.
  • 3 tablespoons corn starch Thickens the pudding.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Use pure for best flavor.
  • 1 pinch salt Enhances sweetness.
For layering
  • 2 large ripe bananas Choose bananas with some brown spots.
  • 1 box vanilla wafers Use dry and crisp wafers.
  • 1 cup heavy cream At least 36% fat for whipping.
Optional garnish
  • Additional banana slices For decoration.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, and corn starch.
  2. Cook over medium heat until the mixture thickens, stirring constantly.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
  4. Let the pudding cool slightly for 5 minutes.
Layering
  1. In a large serving dish, layer vanilla wafers, banana slices, and pudding mixture, repeating until all ingredients are used.
  2. Whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form and spread it on top of the pudding.
  3. Garnish with additional banana slices if desired.
Chilling
  1. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

Best served chilled. The flavors improve after a few hours in the fridge.
