Ingredients
  

For the Cake
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix or 1 homemade chocolate cake Prepare according to package instructions or your favorite recipe.
For the Cream
  • 1 cup heavy cream For whipping.
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Cherry Layer
  • 2 cups canned or fresh cherries Pitted, with juice or syrup.
  • 1/4 cup cherry juice From the canned cherries or fresh.
For the Pudding Layer
  • 2 cups vanilla pudding Store-bought or homemade.
For Garnish
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate shavings Or grated chocolate.
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder Optional for garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Bake the chocolate cake according to the package instructions or your favorite homemade recipe. Allow it to cool completely before cutting it into small cubes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until it forms soft peaks. Make sure not to overwhip it.
  3. If using canned cherries, drain them while keeping some juice. If using fresh, simply pit them and set them aside. Mix the cherries with cherry juice for extra flavor if desired.
Assembly
  1. In a large glass bowl or individual cups, layer chocolate cake cubes at the bottom, followed by cherries, vanilla pudding, and whipped cream. Repeat layers until the bowl or cups are filled, finishing with whipped cream on top.
  2. Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to allow flavors to meld.

Notes

Serve chilled and garnish with dark chocolate shavings and a sprinkle of cocoa powder. Store leftovers tightly covered in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days.
