Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 medium medium potatoes, thinly sliced Opt for starchy varieties like Russets for the best texture.
  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey for a leaner option.
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Feel free to mix in other cheeses for variety.
  • 1 cup milk Dairy-free milk can be used for a dairy-free version.
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium skillet, brown the ground beef and chopped onion over medium heat, stirring occasionally until cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  3. In a baking dish, lay down half of the sliced potatoes and sprinkle with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  4. Spread half of the cooked beef mixture over the potatoes and add half of the shredded cheese.
  5. Repeat with another layer of sliced potatoes, the remaining beef mixture, and cheese. Pour milk evenly over the top.
Baking
  1. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Serving
  1. Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, mix in some hot sauce or use a blend of cheeses. To prevent mushy potatoes, ensure they are sliced thinly and layer properly.
