Ingredients

For the beef mixture
  • 1.5 pounds ground round
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 cup barbecue sauce
For assembly
  • 1 package Hawaiian rolls, 12-count, cut in half horizontally Do not separate individual rolls
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices bacon, cooked until crisp
  • 1 jalapeno, thinly sliced, or more to taste
  • 0.5 cup crispy fried onions

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook while breaking it apart with a spoon until it is no longer pink, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well.
  4. Add the barbecue sauce and mix until combined. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
Assembly
  1. Place the bottom half of the Hawaiian rolls on a small rimmed baking sheet.
  2. Top with half of the shredded cheese.
  3. Add the beef mixture, then layer on the bacon, jalapenos, crispy onions, and the remaining cheese.
  4. Finally, place the top half of the rolls on top and cover the pan with foil.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven until the rolls are toasted and the cheese is melted and gooey, about 15 to 20 minutes.

Notes

Serve warm from the oven. You can cut them into individual sliders for easy serving. They pair well with extra barbecue sauce on the side for dipping. Add some pickles or a fresh salad to create a complete meal. For extra flavor, cook the ground beef with diced onions or bell peppers. You can use different cheeses, like pepper jack or mozzarella, for a twist on the classic. For a spicy kick, add more sliced jalapenos or even some hot sauce to the beef mixture.
