Dough ingredients
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast Use fresh active dry yeast.
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 100–110°F / 38–43°C) Dissolve yeast in warm milk.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Mix with butter and egg.
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted Use real butter for flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Unsalted butter allows precise salt control.
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Sift if lumpy.
  • 1 large egg Room temperature egg mixes evenly.

Method
 

Dough Preparation
  1. Dissolve the yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine melted butter, remaining sugar, and salt. Add the egg.
  3. Combine the frothy yeast mixture with the wet ingredients.
  4. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Rising
  1. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled, about 1 hour.
  2. Punch down the dough, roll it out, and cut it into triangles.
Shaping and Second Rise
  1. Roll each triangle from the wide end towards the tip to form crescents.
  2. Place on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Serve warm with butter or jam.

Notes

For best results, use room-temperature ingredients and proof yeast in a warm spot. Store cooled rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
