Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Essential for achieving that light and flaky texture
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Real butter ensures richness and flavor
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar For sweetness and a bit of crunch on top
  • 1 tablespoon yeast Helps the pastry rise beautifully
  • 1/2 cup milk Warm milk helps activate the yeast
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Balances sweetness and enhances flavor
Optional Fillings
  • Nutella For a sweet filling
  • almond paste For a sweet filling
  • savory cheese mixtures For a savory option

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Gradually add warm milk while mixing to form a soft dough.
  2. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Cover the bowl with a cloth and let it rise in a warm spot for about an hour or until it doubles in size.
Baking Method
  1. Press down the dough and roll it into a large rectangle on a floured surface.
  2. Spread softened butter over the top, then roll it up tightly from one long side to the other before slicing it into smaller sections.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Grease and flour a muffin tin, then take each rolled piece of dough and twist it before placing it into the muffin cup.
  4. Fill the center with your chosen filling and bake for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Let the cruffins cool slightly before serving them warm.

Notes

Don't rush the rising time; it’s crucial for achieving that light, airy texture. Experiment with seasonal fruit or different types of nuts for unique twists. Use cold butter for layering for best results.
