Method
Preparation
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and cook until they are softened and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
- Drain any excess fat.
Cooking
- Stir in thyme, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 5 minutes to combine flavors.
- Toast the hamburger buns until golden brown.
Assembly
- Assemble the sloppy joes by placing the beef mixture on the bottom half of each bun, then sprinkle with shredded Swiss cheese.
- Place under a broiler for 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serving
- Serve hot on toasted buns. Offer pickles, chips, or a simple green salad on the side.
Notes
Allow the beef mix to cool to room temperature before storing in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat on the stove over low heat or microwave until hot. For best texture, do not store the buns with the beef.
