Ingredients

Cake Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Ensure it's high quality for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup sugar Balances the bitterness of the cocoa beautifully.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter For rich, creamy texture.
  • 4 large eggs Provides structure and moisture.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds depth to the chocolate flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Enhances the overall taste.
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour Just enough to bind the mixture.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter. Once melted, remove from heat and whisk in the cocoa powder and sugar until well combined.
  3. Allow the mixture to cool slightly. Then whisk in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. The mixture should be glossy and smooth.
  4. Gently fold in the salt and flour using a spatula. Be careful not to overmix; the batter should be just combined.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Once baked, let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Serving
  1. Dust with powdered sugar, or serve with whipped cream or ice cream for an added treat.

Notes

Use quality ingredients for the best flavor. Letting the cake sit before cutting enhances the flavors. You can also experiment with fillings such as chocolate ganache or berries.
