Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Provides structure for the cake
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder For that rich chocolate flavor
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda Helps the cake rise
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Enhances the overall flavor
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Adds sweetness and balances the cocoa
  • 1 cup buttermilk Keeps the cake moist and tender
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened For richness and flavor
  • 3 large eggs Binds the ingredients together

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition to create a smooth batter.
Mixing and Baking
  1. Gradually incorporate the flour mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, starting and finishing with the flour mixture, mixing until just combined.
  2. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top with a spatula.
  3. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  4. Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting with rich chocolate frosting and generously adding chocolate sprinkles.

Notes

Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for better texture. Avoid overmixing the batter once the flour is added. Consider different types of cocoa for varied flavor.
