  • 2 cans canned salmon, drained About 14 to 15 ounces total or 2 cups cooked flaked salmon
  • 1 large egg Binder for the patties
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers Acts as a binder
Flavor Enhancers
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise or Greek yogurt Adds moisture and flavor
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard Optional flavoring
  • 2 tablespoons minced onion or green onion For added flavor
Seasonings
  • to taste salt Use as needed
  • to taste pepper Use as needed
  • to taste garlic powder Use as needed
  • to taste lemon juice Optional but adds freshness

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, add the drained salmon and flake it with a fork.
  2. Mix in the egg, mayonnaise, onion, breadcrumbs, and seasonings.
  3. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes to help the crumbs soak up moisture.
  4. Shape the mixture into 6 to 8 patties, about 3 inches wide.
Cooking
  1. Heat a skillet on medium heat, add oil, and wait until it shimmers.
  2. Cook the patties for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden and crisp.
  3. Rest the patties on a paper towel for a minute, then serve immediately.

Notes

For a spicy kick, try a drizzle of chili sauce with your patties. Adjust seasonings based on taste and preferences, especially if using pre-seasoned canned salmon.
