Ingredients

Dumpling Base
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour provides the structure for the dumplings
  • 1 teaspoon salt enhances the flavor of the dough
  • 2 large eggs binds the ingredients and creates a rich texture
  • 1/2 cup water helps adjust the dough consistency
For Serving
  • 1 tablespoon butter adds flavor and richness

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt, whisking until well blended.
  2. Add the eggs to the dry mixture and start mixing, gradually incorporating the water until you achieve a thick, spoonable batter.
Cooking
  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Using a spaetzle maker or a colander with large holes, press the batter through into the boiling water to create small, irregular dumplings.
  3. Allow the dumplings to cook for about 2-3 minutes or until they rise to the surface.
  4. Use a slotted spoon to remove the spaetzle and drain briefly before transferring to a hot pan with melted butter.
  5. Sauté for a couple of minutes until golden.
  6. Enjoy immediately, garnished with additional butter or your favorite sauce.

Notes

Stir the batter until just combined to keep the spaetzle light and airy. If the batter feels too thick, add a splash more water to reach the perfect consistency. For added depth of flavor, consider browning the butter before adding the spaetzle.
