These homemade strawberry scones are a delightful treat featuring chopped strawberries, zesty orange, and a sweet strawberry glaze that adds a finishing touch.

Ingredients
  

For the Scones
  • 2 7/8 cups All-purpose flour Use good quality flour for best results.
  • 1 tbsp Baking powder Make sure it's not expired for proper rise.
  • 2 1/2 tbsp Granulated sugar Adjust sugar to taste if necessary.
  • 1 pinch Nutmeg For optimal flavor.
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 6 1/2 oz Unsalted Butter, cold and cubed Keep butter cold for flaky texture.
  • 3/4 cup Buttermilk Full-fat is recommended.
  • 1 1/2 cups Fresh Strawberries, chopped Use firm strawberries.
  • 5 pcs Strawberries, for garnish Whole strawberries to top the scones.
  • 1 tsp Orange Zest Adds a fresh citrus flavor.
For the Glaze
  • 1 1/4 cups Powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp Orange juice Freshly squeezed orange juice preferred.
  • 1 1/2 tsp Vanilla extract Optional but recommended for flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, nutmeg, and salt together.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in chopped strawberries, orange zest, and buttermilk until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and pat it into a 1-inch thick circle.
  6. Cut the circle into 8 wedges and place them on a baking sheet.
Baking
  1. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  2. For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, orange juice, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Drizzle over warm scones and top with whole strawberries.

Notes

Serve warm. Best enjoyed fresh. Can be frozen and reheated for later use.
