Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 500 g flour The foundation for creating those fluffy dumplings.
  • 250 ml milk Adds moisture and richness.
  • 1 packet (7g) instant yeast For quick rising.
  • 2 tbsp sugar To sweeten the dough.
  • 1/2 tsp salt Enhances the overall flavor.
  • 2 eggs Adds richness and structure.
  • 50 g melted butter For that delicious, buttery flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, warm the milk until it’s lukewarm. Mix in the yeast and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Create a well in the center and add the frothy yeast mixture, eggs, and melted butter.
  3. Mix until all ingredients are combined, then knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into equal portions. Roll each piece into a ball and place them in a greased steamer basket.
  6. Cover the balls with a cloth and allow them to rise again for about 30 minutes.
  7. Set up your steamer with water boiling beneath the steamer basket. Steam the dumplings for about 15-20 minutes until they are puffed up and cooked through.

Notes

Ensure that your yeast is fresh; expired yeast will not rise properly and lead to dense dumplings. The dough should be kneaded well to develop gluten, which gives the dumplings that signature fluffy texture. Serve immediately after steaming with vanilla sauce for a delightful experience. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, steam for about 5 minutes over simmering water until heated through.
